Manufacturing contributed 411.97 billion yuan, some 60.76 billion U.S. dollars, to Changzhou's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2022, an annual increase of 6.5 percent. The manufacturing value added (MVA) accounted for 43.1 percent of the GDP, ranking first in Jiangsu province.
The MVA of an economy is the total estimate of the net output of all resident manufacturing activity units obtained by adding up outputs and subtracting intermediate consumption.
In 2022, industrial enterprises above designated size saw output value increase by 11.8 percent on a yearly basis. High-tech manufacturing industries increased 45 percent in the value of output for the period.
Photovoltaics (PV), New Energy Vehicle (NEV) and EV battery industries saw output values rise 29.2 percent, 223 percent and 140.8 percent, respectively.
In 2022, Changzhou also saw a 9.2 percent growth in manufacturing investments at an annualized pace, driving the city’s investment growth by 3.8 percentage points.
